WHAT IS...
SANCTUARY
SANCTUARY is a site-specific dance that elevates and activates the architecture of a worship space. It is customized in order to uplift and enhance the building's unique architecture as well as the congregation's values. SANCTUARY has taken form in new spaces, reintroducing a church to its congregation. This project merges historic architecture through an innovative lens.

After a successful debut in NYC and a momentous film festival season, SANCTUARY was restaged at Hope College in 2021. The cast size tripled in size, as well as the space.
This program was made possible through the Plansoen Foundation and a Vital Worship Grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, Grand Rapids, Michigan, with funds provided by Lilly Endowment Inc.

THE NEXT STEPS...
SELAH
SELAH, a collaboration with the University of Notre Dame, is a contemplative work, a continuation of Hanson's SANCTUARY (2021). It invites viewers to pause and reflect on the painful beauty of resilience and the search for meaning in the midst of hardship.

and Westminster Presbyterian in 2026.
