WHAT IS...
THE SANCTUARY PROJECT
SANCTUARY is a site-specific concept of dance in collaboration with a church's architecture and values. It is a continual body of work that is re-imagined based on the host church. At each site, the project is customized in order to uplift and enhance the building's unique architecture as well as the congregation's values. SANCTUARY has taken form in new spaces, reintroducing a church to its congregation. This project merges historic architecture through an innovative lens.
SANCTUARY had a successful debut in NYC and a momentous film festival season following. SANCTUARY is a dynamically evolving piece, constantly being re-staged and reinvented across the country, and includes collaborators in some of the nation's leading faith-based institutions such as Notre Dame University, Redeemer Churches and Ministries, and Belmont University.

This program was made possible through the Plansoen Foundation and a Vital Worship Grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, Grand Rapids, Michigan, with funds provided by Lilly Endowment Inc.

SELAH, a contemplative work in collaboration with University of Notre Dame, is a continuation of Hanson's SANCTUARY (2021). It invites viewers to pause and reflect on the painful beauty of resilience and the search for meaning in the midst of hardship.
SELAH allows room to contemplate, to pause, and to find solace.
